History and medal information - British DFC Medal Distinguished Flying Cross Gallantry Medal. Instituted - June 1918 this medal was only available to warrant officers and officers in respect of acts of valour while flying in active operations against the enemy.

This medal is available to members of the Army and Royal Air Force.

As a result of Gallantry medal reviews 1993 this medal is now awarded to all ranks Obverse of the cross flory terminating with a rose, surmounted by another cross made of propeller blades charged in the centre with a roundel within a laurel wreath.
