Ribbon Colours - Pale buff symbolising the sand of the desert with a broad Red central stripe (the Army), a Navy Dark Blue stripe on the left and Royal Air Force Light Blue stripe on the right symbolising the three services. Item - Genuine Miniature Medal in mint condition with ribbon. History and medal information - British Africa Star Medal World War 2. The medal was Awarded for service in North Africa principally against Rommels, Afrika Korps Covers - Egypt (Tobruk), Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Malta. The long range desert group LRDG assisted both the SAS and 1st/8th army from 1942-1945. Indian, Canadian, Australian and New Zealanders all helped the British Army in North Africa to push out Rommels army back during the Desert Campaign of WW2. Initially General Montgomery was not in Charge of the 1st or 8th Army but only took over in the Desert at El Alamein, which had previously been defensively prepared by its commanders. He went onto push the German Afrika Corps and the Italian forces back and Re-took Tobruk with a impressive tank and Infantry assault from which the German forces never recovered and later ended the campaign in North Africa with 14 tanks.
