History and medal information - Obverse - A crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, Reverse - An oak wreath enclosing a crown and the words FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE. It has a beaded and curved suspension above which are mounted campaign clasp. Introduced in 1962 to replace both the naval general service medal and the 1918 General Service medal. The medal was instituted for award to personnel of all services. The Northern Ireland bar was awarded for covering at least 30 days peace duties between 1969 up to 2007. This was the longest running clasp/bar ever issued.
